— a time to recognise the strength, stories, and cultural contributions of sanctuary-seeking communities. It's also a time to celebrate the partnerships and people who help make Lewisham a true Borough of Sanctuary.
As part of this year’s programme, New Arrivals Support CIC is hosting a Community Picnic: Tastes of Lewisham on Thursday
This picnic is part of our 50+ Ukrainian Wellbeing Project, and it brings together older refugee participants who’ve each researched and prepared dishes inspired by the many communities that call Lewisham home. It will be a joyful, welcoming celebration of food, identity, and togetherness — and we’d love to open it up to a wider network.
We’d be grateful if you could help us spread the word:
If you work directly with older people or refugee and migrant communities, please feel free to invite those you support to attend.
If not, you can still support us by sharing the flyer (attached) with any relevant networks.
And of course — you are warmly invited to attend too! Come enjoy delicious food, meet the community, and celebrate Refugee Week with us in good company.
Let’s come together to celebrate the community as our shared superpower.

On 12 June, participants of the 50+ Project will gather to celebrate the strength and meaning of community. Together with members of different communities involved in the project, we’ll reflect on the idea of “community as a superpower,” share stories, and mark Refugee Week through discussion, laughter, and connection. The event is also part of our preparations for upcoming summer picnic that will bring together new arrivals of all ages.
Our youngest participants from the Maliatko Project have been busy designing handmade bookmarks that will be gifted to the public during the Greenwich Community Fair. This creative activity highlights the role of children in shaping and contributing to our Ukrainian Library, showing how even the smallest hands can help build a culture of reading, memory, and community.
On 20 June, our Youth Project participants will celebrate their journey with a creative showcase. They will present dioramas and posters reflecting on community, diversity, and the Lewisham experience, all inspired by the idea that “community is a superpower.” This event is part of a wider week of celebrations, including a parallel gathering by the Maliatko Project, bringing together young voices in meaningful and creative ways.
